Here's the wrap-up video I promised, although I got a little tilted at the end:

Anyway, moving on: I decided to keep my current facial regimen simple. I don't want to poke the dragon until it breathes fire at me again, so here's what I currently use:

Bath gel/wash: Pretty much anything I want. I favor Suave, Bath and Body Works, and Lush, but it's whatever.
Face washing: Bar soap, which I never, ever used before I started Accutane. I prefer Yardley but I also like Dove or anything from Lush. Currently I'm using some Snowcake that Jay sent me.
Moisturizer: Aveeno with SPF 15. It's very light. If I feel I need more, I use Nivea Soft moisturizing cream.
Lotion: At first, I was going with scentless lotion from Vaseline, but now I let myself use fun scented stuff. Currently I have a mandarin scent from Suave!
Makeup:: I still use Bare Minerals, which has been the kindest on my skin. Under it, I use a green stick by NYC to cover up my red, and a concealer from Mary Kay, just to even out my skin tone. Then I use the Bare Minerals on top.
Misc: Baby wipes to remove makeup, also the Bio Oil Experiment (TM)
Hey everyone :) I wanted an update because I'm doing a little experiment! Accutane, despite all of the call-this-number-if-you've-been-injured-by-Accutane law firm commercials, has left me with fabulous, blemish-free skin. Seriously, it doesn't even look like I ever had acne! And to show this, I'll be updating soon with back, face, neck, etc pics because I look even better than I did from my last month!

Anyways, I got some Bio Oil for Christmas. Jay swears that it will solve your problems, so I want to see if it will make some of my facial scars fade. I also have one on my back from a bug bite (possibly?). I'm two days in, and the instructions are to apply the oil twice daily. I'm supposed to do this for three months, so let's see!

Here's a random picture of me for Bio Oil: Month 1:
What I look like 1/10/2011

The red marks on my nose are from my glasses, that's not anything crazy going on.

Look at my friggin forehead! It's lovely!

Anyways, I'll get back to you with wrap up pics. Next up: A video and my current regimen.
As of Tuesday, 10/19/2010, I finished my last dose of Accutane. :) So special thanks to Dr. Butler and Dr. Syed for fixing my face. :) I'll be forever grateful. :)

For posterity, I wanted to show you my Amnesteem pills, 40mg, which I had for my last month of Accutane:

Cover of the box
The box.

Amnesteem
They look more intimidating than they actually are because of the egg size but they're gelatin coated, which makes it easier to swallow.

DO NOT GET PREGNANT
DON'T GET PREGNANT!
Before I started Accutane, makeup struggled to cover my face. This is what makeup did at the end of May:
Me with makeup months ago
As of 5/29/2010. Not too bad, right? At least it's not red.

But look at me now:
Graham Norton and me
It doesn't even look like I have anything on my Face at all! I know to look like this I *have* to wear makeup but I'm shocked I can look like this at all! This was on 9/2/2010.

And also, no, that's not really Graham Norton, it's a wax figure at Madame Tussaud's.

What a difference, no?
Hay guys, starting Month 5! Actually, I’ve started it already, but it’s taken me forever to update.

They dropped me to 40mg once a day, instead of the 30mg twice a day I’ve been taking. CVS must have not had Claravis in 40s, so they gave me Amnesteem, which I’ll post pictures of soon. The pills are egg-shaped which scared me at first, but they’re gels and easier to swallow than they look.

Face: Month 5 >> Month 4
Month Five: Face
Month 4: Face

Definitely still have scars, although Dr. Syed said they were going away. Nothing new. Some facial redness but that’ll go away with lotion and time, I think. Makeup also covers all of the above.

Right side of the face: Month 5 >> Month 4
Month Five: Right side
Month 4: Right Side

I have a cyst or something on the right side of my neck, which I wish would go away. I think if it’s not gone in a month or two (I’ve had it awhile), I’ll go see Dr. Syed about it. The Accutane works after you stop, as in it stays in your system, so I think I’ll keep seeing improvement. Cysts always take forever to go away.

Left side of the face: Month 5 >> Month 4
Month 5: Left side
Month 4: Left Side

Nothing! The red marks but the edge of my jaw are almost completely gone, although you can’t really see them in the picture.

Back: Month 5 >> Month 4
Month Five: Back
Month 4: Back

Just mostly a bit of scarring but nothing that bothers me!

Chest: Month 5 >> Month 4
Month Five: Chest
Month 4: Chest

My chest looks amazing. All of the red marks are faded or completely gone. It was like nothing was there.

Arms: Month 5
Month Five: Right arm
Month Five: Left arm

It was like I never had anything there at all. No scarring, no redness, nothing, it looks gorgeous.

I’m 1/3 of the way through my last dosage and one blood test to go! I can’t wait to post pictures of The end of Month 5 with the beginning of Month 1. 

Up soon: Pictures of the Amnesteem, ending musings, worries. Not necessarily in that order.

Thanks for reading 

Luff,
Ashe
I was looking at my cheeks and thinking how much it sucks to get through acne, see the light at the end of the tunnel, only to be left with scars on my cheeks. It means I would always have to wear makeup or be self-conscious. What’s the point of healing my skin if there’s going to just be another thing wrong with it?

But then I looked into ways to get rid of scarring: Lasers, microdermabrasion, possible lipsuction to inject fat into your face. That’s too aggressive for the amount of scarring I have and honestly? It doesn’t bother me that much. Oddly, my face feels smooth and I’m happy with the way it’s behaving.

So, my consensus with myself is that if the scars really start to bother me, I’ll look into serious ways to get rid of them. Dr. Syed said that moisturizing will help and some of the scarring will fade over time. My co-worker Kumar says “don’t trouble the trouble until the trouble troubles you.” If I’m not troubled and concealer hides it, is there any point worrying about it? When I take my makeup off for doctor’s appointments and go outside, I don’t even worry about it showing.

Summary for the tl; dr: Unless it bothers me a lot, I’m not going to worry about it.
Hay everyone! I’m starting Month 4 of Accutane in a few days! I’m back with Dr. Syed and he told me that Month 5 will be my last and that five was standard. So I guess I’m nearly done!

Onto the pictures then! Let me add that I’m wearing my good Marks & Spencer’s bra for this.

Face: Month 4 >> Month 3
Month 4: Face
Face, Month 3

I’m not quite sure why my face looks red on the right side now, because it doesn’t look like that in person. I’m sure it’s the flash, but I didn’t want you guys to think it wasn’t working!

I have scars on my cheeks but Dr. Syed said that like the redness, they will fade a little over time. I thought when my round of Accutane is over that I’d maybe get microdermabrasion or something, but I don’t think I will. All that is for another post.

Right side of the face: Month 4 >> Month 3
Month 4: Right Side
Right Side, Month 3

Doesn’t look like a huge change but in person, the sides are a lot less red. I have a cyst-like bump on my neck that’s also going away.

Left side of the face: Month 4 >> Month 3
Month 4: Left Side
Left Side, Month 3

Redness has faded a LOT, which is hard to show since the flash picks it up and I need the flash to get a proper picture!

Back: Month 4 >> Month 3
Month 4: Back
Back, Month 3

The back is going to be my problem area, I can tell. I threw a baby shower for my friend and I was running around sweating, and I broke out with two blemishes. In the past couple days, I got maybe two more although they’re dry already. I’m not too worried about it because I know they’ll be gone soon but they make my back worse than it really is. Besides those few blemishes, everything else is just red marks. And this is mostly on the left shoulder, the right shoulder is behaving just fine!

Chest: Month 4 >> Month 3
Month 4: Chest
Chest, Month 3

It may be hard to tell, but the red marks I had faded a LOT more. I have no blemishes on my chest otherwise.

Even though I haven’t been tracking them, I wanted to show you my upper arm:
Month 4: Arm

Both arms are clear and red mark-free.

I’m quite happy about how I look! If I had to stop now and look like this forever, I would be fine.
Next up: A short musing on scarring.

Luff,
Ashe
Remember how my arm hurt? This is what my elbow (what, my elbow?) looks a week later:

Elbow

Zombie elbow!

;-;!
So! Big changes! It might be hard to tell for you guys, but I can definitely tell.

Face: Month 3 >> Month 2
Face, Month 3
Face, Month 2

No big bumps! I have some on my right cheek but you can’t see it, save for my face being a little red in parts.

Right side of the face: Month 3 >> Month 2
Right Side, Month 3
Right Side, Month 2

What. A. Difference. The right side of my face mainly has red marks that Dr. Butler said would fade.

Left side of the face: Month 3 >> Month 2
Left Side, Month 3
Left Side, Month 2

Still some stuff going on but not even as much as last month! Also, you can see the dryness in the corner of my mouth.

Back: Month 3 >> Month 2
Back, Month 3
Back, Month 2

I had a couple spring up (like the one on my left shoulder) but one happened between my shoulder blades and it was gone in two days or so. I’m also confident to wear tank tops that show my chest and back and no longer feel like I have to cover up with makeup.

Chest: Month 3 >> Month 2
Chest, Month 3
Chest, Month 2

Still some redness but I don’t care!

Up next: Pictures of my zombie elbow!
Hey ya'll, I had my third appointment. :D My face looks even better than the last time I posted, even, and Dr. Butler's very happy with the progress. She's moving to California now! :( But I'm going back to Dr. Syed and/or his new female partner who is coming in the next few weeks. =D So I'm okay with it, although I'll miss her because she fixed my face!

Getting blood drawn was easy now but I think the lady hit a nerve cuz my arm ached like the minute I left the lab on Wednesday and it still aches a little today. @_@ Maybe she took the blood out with a shovel, I dunno.

Also, my neck is red and itchy, but I think that's just my skin reacting to me switching to a new moisturizer.

Pics to follow but OMG, next time I have an appointment I'll be getting ready for England! OMG OMG OMG
I promised pics of pill sizes!

40mg:
40 mg

DON’T GET PREGNANT
DON'T GET PREGNANT

30mg, out of the box and on my textbook:
30 mg

These pics make the pills look WAY bigger than they are.

Another lovely side effect is that my nose is really dry, like the inside of it. @_@ It doesn’t bother me but it’s weird.
My doctor's appointment went really well! She upped me to 60mg which I take in two 30mg pills a day. I also switched my pharmacy to CVS because Walgreen's was "out" of Claravis. wtf.

Also, the 30mg pills are small still, so I'm really happy about it.

I think I have a bit of a flare-up but honestly, comparing pics, you wouldn't believe it just one month in. Dr. Butler is very happy with the progress! I also look really good in makeup, ie, my makeup covers my face now.

Let's compare!

Chest: Month 1 >> Month 2
Chest, Month 1
Chest, Month 2
What's left on my chest is flat. Blemishes, that is. XD

Face: Month 1 >> Month 2
Face, Month 1
Face, Month 2
Some big ones but they happened in the last couple days. They’re also drying out really quickly and are tender like the beginning of last month.

Back: Month 1 >> Month 2
Back, Month 1
Back, Month 2
I just can’t believe it looks as good as it does. My right shoulder has some stuff going on and there’s a fresh one on my left, but mostly it looks great.
Neck, left side: Month 1 >> Month 2
Left Side, Month 1
Left Side, Month 2
Much, much better looking

Neck, right side: Month 2
Right Side, Month 2
I don’t have a comparison from Month 1 but look at this!

I am a little worried about the scarring but I think once the blemishes are gone, it won’t matter so much.

Once the flare-up goes away, I think I’ll be back to being pleased. :D

Next up: Random pill pics
I got myself cancelled from work so I could get my bloodwork done, pick up my new glasses, and get schoolwork done, which I'm still working on as we speak. I went to do the blookdwork all by myself and I was fine! Yay me! I did feel a little lightheaded, though, but I didn't pass out. :)

Another post is coming Friday after the doctor, I think. :) I'm dying to know what she's going to say about how good my skin looks!

May 23

May. 23rd, 2010 08:34 pm
I've been on Accutane for about two weeks now. Everything is drying out, including my lips, and my skin looks a lot better. I also haven't been breaking out as much. I'm really excited with the way things are looking, even though the sides of my mouth are cracked. I don't really care because I know it'll get better, and I'm pleased that my forehead is flat. The mountain line on my chin has also, for the most part, gone away.

I would take more pictures but I don't think the camera will show the difference I feel, so I'll take more after my next appointment. :)

Yay! :)

May 8th

May. 8th, 2010 12:34 pm
I took my very first pill yesterday, May 7th. :) I feel better just knowing I've started, although I'm wary of the side effects starting. >_>
So today was a good day. I found out yesterday before I left for work that instead of regular work, I had a class from 9 to 4. So I got to stay up late, sleep in, wear regular clothes, go and get paid to listen and write some stuff and eat all day. Oh, and it was like five and a half hours from 9 to 2:35 instead because we were quick. I mean, bring on the classes, it was a lot of fun.

Then I went to fill my scrip at Walgreen's and they gave me Claravis and the pills are SMALL in comparison to the Accutane pills. They're about the size of a Tylenol and thinner.

I can't wait to start taking them! :)

P.S.- Also changed the blog name to 180 pills, since you get six months of thirty pills each course. iPledge is a confusing-ass system, I tell you.
I saw my doctor today to finally- *finally* get my prescription. I have to wait a couple days to make sure that my pill-taking and blood-letting is in sync with my trip in August- ie, my appointments and bloodwork don't fall in the middle of it. Two days seems like agony, I want to start taking this ASAP.

She started me on 40mg a day. She said I'd work my way up to 60mg but she likes to start small and that she only saw one patient with a flare-up, so maybe my skin getting worse before it gets better won't happen. The dryness will, though, so I ordered a bunch of different Nivea lip balms and bought some natural lip balm from Sunrise Soap Company (http://www.sunrisesoapco.com) at the PA Fairy Festival. Bring it on, because I don't think that Accutane can bring on worse discomfort and pain than I'm in now. I dunno, we'll see.

So, Month 1: Before Pictures

This is after a shower so I look absolutely terrible. That's why they're called "before" pictures, so here we go.

I can't wait to start!

Pretty much me complaining about the pain I'm in.
I'm lashing out at everyone now. Eight more days until my appointment.

I'm starting to think that the pimples are little pods in my face that are making me be a bitch. :/

This is a look at my neck and possibly some of what's going on with my back.
Second video post and 11 days to go until my doctor's appointment to get my prescription.

So the reasons why I have the names I do on my blog...

183 Pills is the estimated number of pills I'll have to take. I know sometimes in the fourth or fifth month, they up your pills to two or so, so this name could change.
I was thinking about "Barefaced" because I want to do all of my blogs without any makeup on to show my progress, but eh.
My username, goldenworld, is from a line from the Tudors: Anne Bolelyn is dancing around because she's happy she's preggo with Henry's son and she says that England's on the edge of a golden world. That's what I feel like- the advent of my skin clearing up (not to mention finishing school forever in like two months), I'm on the edge of a golden world.
